Many people think about “wellness” in terms of physical health only. The word invokes thoughts of nutrition, exercise, weight management, blood pressure, etc. Wellness, however, is much more than physical health. Wellness is a full integration of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. It is a complex interaction that leads to quality of life.

The concept of seven dimensions of wellness were developed in 1976 by Dr. William Hettler, co-founder of the National Wellness Institute as a holistic approach to wellness. The seven dimensions are Physical, Mental, Intellectual, Spiritual, Environmental, Social and Occupational. Let’s dig deeper to give you more opportunities to enrich your daily life and work towards a balance of your own seven dimensions of wellness.

  • Physical dimension which focuses on building strength, flexibility, and endurance, and practicing healthy daily habits through moving more and eating better.

  • Mental dimension is by practicing gratitude and expressing your emotions you help in achieving balance in the face of the challenges. Being present and mindful in the moment.

  • Intellectual dimension is by boosting your brain and open mind leads to a life filled with passion purpose, by engaging yourself in creative and stimulating activities.

  • Spiritual dimension is through nourishing your soul, feeding it with beliefs and core values that open your mind and creating your inner peace.

  • Environmental dimension helping you to connect with the planet and bring a sense of belonging to the surroundings, have you asked how your daily habits can affect the world around you in a positive way?
